Photoshop Tips: Abstract Lighting Effect
Photoshop has many tool that can be used for composition – creating a new image from scratch. Abstract lighting effects are very useful for adding unique effects to images are even as part of an entire composition itself. This tutorial shows you how to create your own abstract lighting effect in a few short steps.
1. Start with a new document in Photoshop that is 400px X 400px and make the background black.

2. Go to the Filter -> Render -> Lens Flare. Use the 50-300mm Zoom lens and try to center the flare on the image.

3. Grab your smudge tool and adjust it to have a brush size of 27px and Strength of 50%. Starting at the center of the lens flare, drag out:
4. This is where it gets interesting. Go to the Filter -> Distort -> Wave tool and use the following settings. Feel free to play with these to make your own dramatic effect. For the biggest changes, adjust the Amplitude Min. settings or just click the “Randomize” button until you see something you like.
5. Now, right-click on this layer and select duplicate. Press Ctrl + F to repeat the same Wave filter again and set the layer type to screen. Repeat this step with other Wave settings to get some really exciting lighting effects.
6. As a last step, right-click on one of the layers and flatten the image. Go to Image -> Adjustments -> Hue/Saturation and use the following settings, or find colors you want:
